The Secret

I would call the movie, The Secret my second ah-ha moment. When Ali and Jeff Lee came over to watch it, I was excited to have the company. When they left, after multiple pauses and deep conversation, I was left with a new lens with which to view the world. I learned that it is much better to think of positive outcomes and desires rather than dwell on wishing for what you don't want to happen. I made an interesting connection to the believe that, in the classroom, behavioral expectations, or rules, should always be posited in the positive. This way, you don't get students thinking about negative behavior, but you hope that they remain positive. . .While I've known this in teaching for a very long time, I don't think I really tried to practice it in my life. I have since been practicing it and have really noticed positive results.

My First Ah-Ha Moment

My first ah-ha moment came at our face-to-face in LA, when Dr. Majidi was working with us to find our visions. When I had said I believe that "all kids can learn" is a statement that holds significant meaning for me, he was able to let me see that this could actually be my vision. As such, I have continued to think about this in everything I do, whether it's teaching at CSUSM, talking to my old administrator and colleagues, or looking around at my daughter's school.
